Dedicated to the literature god Man Tai and the martial god Mo Tai, Man Mo Temple was formerly popularly used by students to pray for success in examinations. Several other Man Mo temples are placed around Hong Kong, but this 19th-century structure is the largest and is recognized as a Grade I historic building. Take a moment to say a prayer in the main hall and admire the giant hanging incense coils when you go. Man Mo Temple reviews
One of the most popular temples in Hong Kong. A short walk from Hollywood street. Great atmosphere at the temple, though a bit smokey and crowded inside the temple. If anyone wants to visit a temple..... more »
The temple is wedged between high rise buildings which detract from the beauty of the building - but it is there as a reminder of Hongkong's past. It is home to the God of Literature (Man) and the... more »
Beautiful Buddhist temple right in the heart of Central Hong Kong. Unobtrusive from the outside, but inside is a fragrant & ornate display of statues, carvings, offerings, worshippers, tourists, and (most notably) incense in all shapes & forms. Lovely coils dangle from the ceiling, ensuring smoke floods every part of the temple. The only downside was that, as an asthmatic, I couldn't stay too long before the smoke got to my lungs. I'd still go back in a heartbeat!
This is one of the most ancient temples in Hong Kong. Both of the interior and exterior are kept in good shape. The temple has installed the state of the art furnace to burn down the offerings and incenses, while they try to maintain the air quality within acceptable level. It would be worthwhile to try the divination(fortune telling) if you have trouble in mind and puzzling how to get through. It is located on the right side of the temple.
