The massive Po Lin Monastery boasts an exhibit hall for Buddhist relics, a meditation hall, a shrine, an abbot's chamber, and a scripture library. The monastery's biggest attraction, the impressive "Hall of the Ten Thousand Buddhas" attracts tourists with its impressive exterior adorned with minute carvings and reliefs. The interior of the hall is also lavishly decorated, and the colorfully painted ceilings particularly stand out. Climb to the top of the structure for panoramic views of the main courtyard and a Buddha statue. Run by monks, the monastery's vegetarian restaurant serves dishes made using fresh locally sourced ingredients. • Definitely take a few minutes to visit Po Lin when you head to the Big Buddha. We went during the weekend and watched a lovely ceremony. Be discrete when taking pictures if possible.  more »
  • The Po Lin (Precious Lotus) Monastery was established in 1906 and is dedicated to the goddess Guanyin. From Kowloon, i took the Hong Kong metro to Tung Chung and from there a local bus to Ngong Ping.....  more »

  • Relaxing place to while away some time. Bit of effort to climb stairs to see the Buddha but well worth seeing. Monastery is stunning
  • Lovely place. Came to see the large Buddha, but the entire area is well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing. The ride up takes a little while, and to walk to the stairs under the Buddha could take up to 10 minutes, depending on your pace. The views from the base are good, but there are a lot of people climbing the stairs to the Buddha most of the time. A couple of large temples that can be visited as well.
