Palace of Catalan Music
Each year more than half a million people enjoy the musical performances at Palace of Catalan Music, which was placed on the World Heritage List in 1997. Designed by architect Domenech i Montaner, this exquisitely ornamented structure was built between 1905 and 1908, and originally served as home to the Orfeo Catalá musical society. Widely regarded as a masterpiece of Catalan architecture, the building is a fine example of the Modernist style, featuring elements made of tiles, stones, and bricks. Try to attend a concert, but at the very least arrange to join a guided tour of the site’s famous auditorium, known for its blue-gold stained glass skylight and the sculpture of Wagner’s Valkyries. After visiting the hospital of Sao Pau, the visit to the Palace of Catalan music was a foregone conclusion. The style of Luis Domenech y Montaner does not leave anyone indifferent. UNESCO in 1997... more »

This place is amazing! If you are exploring El Gotic or El Born, you have to stop in and see it. You could do it in under an hour if you're trying to see many things in one day, but I'd recommend... more »

It's. Just. So. Beautiful. I've lived in Barcelona for nearly 5 years now, and I went inside for the first time BECAUSE I'M STINGY and didn't feel like paying the entrance fee (which I can now assure you is worth it). We went to see the Vivaldi Strings concert, and I just felt like I was in another era. My tip as a local - wait to go to a concert and take a tour yourself. The acoustics are all natural (at least the concert I went to), and this way you don't have to pay the steep entrance fee. It was the best birthday present I've had in a long time and I'm already planning on going to another concert soon.

What a feast for the eyes! It's a short tour for €20 but so worth it. The stained glass, the sculptures, the sheer beauty! We were lucky in that there were some people practicing for a concert so we got to experience the acoustics too. If we return to Barcelona we will definitely try to go see/hear a concert here.
