Housed in a building that is widely regarded as architect Frank Gehry’s masterpiece, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao contains a large collection of contemporary art. The museum is seamlessly integrated into its urban surroundings, featuring interconnecting shapes of stones, glass, and titanium on a 32,500 sq m (350,000 sq ft) site along the Nervion River in the old industrial heart of the city. While modest from street level, the building is most impressive when observed from the river, and many travelers consider simply seeing the site from this viewpoint the highlight of their visit to the city. Yet the treasures inside are the real attraction for art lovers from around the world. The museum features numerous exhibits of works by prominent Spanish and international artists. It generally hosts thematic temporary shows, though the highlight is a series of steel sculptures designed by prominent artist Richard Serra. • Loved every minute spent in this fantastic museum. Just the front architecture was worth it. We stayed right across the street from the museum so we had a good view of the building. A must see.  more »
  • We have traveled all around Europe during the covid Era, worse service than that we have never seen... What we just asked was to leave our luggage at the cloakroom, because we have been traveling for....  more »

  • Spent sometime photographing the building in the evenings, and back inside in the morning watching the light moving across the building. The artwork probably lots of people can’t relate, but they are first rate. A few pieces you walk on by like a whole room of this (?!) and then wander back to look a little closely, it does have inner message. The discourse (9 color blobs) in the Warhol room for example, is really meaningful but looks haphazard which explains why the artist piece wasn’t well received in the beginning of days and for us the casual walk by tourists. You have to have some imagination to appreciate them. And the world has lots of people who are alphabetical. The video of the witch, Tremble Tremble, I had a nice nap in there and woke up thinking this is powerful stuff! A woman playing God, but yeah it’s supposedly a powerful witch playing disturbances at the judgement podium. But art is subjective, no? I just loved the hands curtain waving wrapping around the audience, you feel like she is really got a grasp over this, can’t escape her! I loved it. Just one show room was closed for prep. Bummer!
  • A fantastic museum in an up-and-coming city with much character. Great collection, especially of sculptures, with designs, forms and movement as fascinating as that of the museum's architecture itself. The Guggenheim was one of the three highlights of my weekend trip to Bilbao --the other two being a concert I flew in to watch, and the great food/ambiance of this city that reinvented itself from its industrial roots.
