Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba
History meets beauty at Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba, a rare blend of two religions. The massive mosque-turned-cathedral is famed for its "forest" of interior columns, topped with traditional Islamic red and white striped arches. Built in 786 by Moorish settlers, the structure was converted into a Christian church in 1236. Built over the course of nearly 250 years, the structure combines various architectural styles, with decorative elements ranging from elegant to gaudy. Despite the presence of the cathedral, which was added to the middle of the original structure in the 16th century, most of the mosque remains remarkably well preserved. Regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture, the site reminds visitors of the glory and importance Córdoba held in medieval times. A visit to Cordoba is not complete without a visit to this church in which a mosque is located. The special constructions in the church are just like all the pictures on the site, impressive. Take an audio tour (pair of euros) and hear the story of the emergence. You will need to submit an ID as a deposit. The streets in the area surrounding the church are worth a visit with many small restaurants and souvenir shops. We went in November on a Monday and it was wonderfully quiet. You can buy tickets online through the church itself. No extra costs. Discount for the elderly. Time slot is not important. We arrived by train. From the station the mosque is not signposted. From the station, walk through the park into the shopping street to Plaza de la Tendillas. Turn right and walk directly to the mosque. 20 minutes walk. We arrived from Sevilla by high speed train. Wonderful trip, 45 minutes.View original -

Going to Cordoba is a must visit to The Mosque. It's a place to recreate the view and "smells" of peace. It breathes tranquility and its grandiosity is unforgivable not to pass through this place. Peace of mind reigns in all its glory.View original

Have you ever seen a church inside a mosque? Do you think is possible? It is, in Cordoba! Beautiful experience with a 8€ ticket. Inside you can visit the gradual development of the mosque, with distinctive features in the arches. In the middle of it, after the Christians invaded the country, it was built the church structure. Very nice experience! Don't miss it
