Parque del Oeste, Madrid

4.5
#9 of 55 in Parks in Madrid
Spanning an area of 87 hectares (215 acres), Parque del Oeste is home to a beautiful rose garden. Inhaling the scent of the roses, it is difficult to imagine that this was once the site of a landfill. Thanks to Alberto Aquilera, a 20th-century mayor of Madrid, the public can now enjoy these landscaped grounds and pathways. The park houses the Temple of Debod, a gift from the people of Egypt to the people of Spain, reconstructed in the park in 1968 and rising ephemerally from a pool of water. Other monuments are scattered throughout the area, complementing the harmony of the landscaping.  Add Parque del Oeste and other attractions to your Madrid trip itinerary using our Madrid travel route planning website.

  • Best sunset I’ve seen in a long time. Lots of people, but easy enough to find a spot. Expansive views. Fellow playing the clarinet.  more »

  • We basically slept here all afternoon and no one bother us. Once we were awake however a lot of guys approached trying to sell us cold water. There's nice grass areas for picnics.
  • A nice change of scenery while in Madrid. The temple de Debod is within the park and the entrance was totally free though the line was super long(went around 1 pm). The park also offers a nice place to chill if you are exhausted. If you want to enter the Egyptian Temple, be sure to go early because it's totally worth the visit.
