Basilica de la Macarena, Seville

4.4
As the home of the famous 17th-century Virgin of Hope wooden statue, Basilica de la Macarena draws its fair share of visitors. Most come for the morning procession on Good Friday--the largest of its kind in Spain--but you can view the statue any time of year. Once inside the Neobaroque church, head to the main altar to see the statue. It sits surrounded by silver and gold with a small display of pictures and artifacts that show the statue’s significance to Holy Week. La Macarena is revered highly by Sevillanos, so don’t be surprised if locals try to push you toward the exits during mass. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Seville holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Basilica de la Macarena and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • If you are a lover of the holy week and its manifestations, you cannot miss going to see its image. It's a little secluded but it's worth it, you can take advantage of it being in the area and alleyed to see the Palace of Owners and the Christ of the Gypsies

  • You don't need to visit Easter to visit Our Lady of the Macarena. In its small temple lavishly decorated, it is uNA of the most revered images of Seville and Andalucia. It is worth visiting the place, even if there are no religious beliefs.
