Once an ancient mosque’s minaret, Torre Giralda is a converted belfry soaring over the city’s famous Gothic cathedral. A symbol of the city easily recognizable from countless postcards and tourist brochures, the tower can be climbed for a sweeping view of the surrounding area. This brick tower on the northeastern side of the World Heritage–listed cathedral is 104 m (341 ft) tall, originally built around 1190. The tallest sections of the tower were added much later, when Christians took over most of the city’s Islamic buildings and converted them to suit their religious needs. The tower can only be accessed through the cathedral. To ensure entry, check online for available tour options before you go. Torre Giralda Reviews
Not for the faint-hearted, however well-worth the uphill effort to see stunning views of Seville and the Guadalquivir. This tower was built with ramps (not stairs) so the imam could go up and down... more »
Worth the walk. It is wide and spacious. More of a ramp since the caliph built it to ride his horse to the top. Phenomenal unforgettable views of Seville and surroundings. Won't regret it. more »
Definitely visit this tower along with the cathedral. The climb to the top was easy since it was on mostly on ramps. During our visit (September 2019) the east side was covered with scaffolding so you couldn't see views of the city in that direction. This was definitely on my list of places to visit. I'm from Kansas City, Missouri and there is a small version of La Giralda in the Country Club Plaza where I lived. In Kansas City, our La Giralda houses The Cheesecake Factory. :-)
Nice views from the top of the tower. It's an easy climb with most of it done using ramps (and a few stairs at the end). It won't take more than 10m to get to the top. The bells are nice to see but can be loud when it's ringing. Definitely worth the visit if possible!
