The fort was erected to protect the city's palm groves, and through the years has acted as the headquarters for Oman Trucial Scouts and as a governor residence.     Great place for a short visit. There is very little to do or see, largely because it is so unspoilt and as it was when still a fort. There is a section with a good exhibition of stories, photographs and artefacts about a mid century Lawrence of Arabia type adventurer. Very interesting.

    nice place to visit. occasionally there are shows held inside. On normal days the Fort is open from 9am to 5pm. its walkable distance from the Jahili park.
